Morgenrot Selected for Ministry of the Environment Demonstration Project to Accelerate Commercialization of Innovative Low-CO2 Environmental Sanitation Technologies

Morgenrot Inc. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Masamichi Nakamura, hereinafter “Morgenrot”), a provider of infrastructure solutions that supply the computing power underpinning the era of generative AI, today announced that its proposal has been selected for the Ministry of the Environment’s FY2025 “Demonstration Project to Accelerate the Commercialization of Innovative Low-CO2 Environmental Sanitation Technologies - Feasibility Study (FS) on Energy-Saving Digital Infrastructure.”

Under this project, Morgenrot will leverage its technology development capabilities and expertise to study and verify the feasibility of new technologies that improve the energy efficiency of data centers and other digital infrastructure.

Project Overview

To promote new lifestyles enabled by digital technology, this project conducts feasibility studies on the development and demonstration of technologies that contribute to energy savings in digital infrastructure such as data centers. By accelerating the deployment of such technologies, the project aims to help realize a decarbonized society suited to a new social environment.

Background to Morgenrot’s Application

Through its business in HPC job management services and public GPU cloud services, Morgenrot has focused on optimizing server utilization according to job characteristics, reducing power consumption, and enhancing operational efficiency at data centers.

Among the themes covered by this call for proposals, “system optimization and advanced control technologies that contribute to energy conservation and CO2 reduction in digital infrastructure such as data centers” is an area where Morgenrot believes it can make the greatest contribution by drawing on its accumulated know-how and technological strengths. This alignment formed the background to the company’s application.

Morgenrot’s Role in the Project

Within this FS project, Morgenrot will promote research and examination of the feasibility of technologies that optimize server operation management and energy resource management to achieve energy conservation and CO2 reduction, with a view toward future social implementation.

Specifically, the company plans to:

• Develop methods for managing the basic information required for optimization

• Develop job-scheduling optimization functions

• Define data center operational requirements necessary to execute optimization

• Develop multi-objective job-scheduling optimization functions across multiple data centers

• Verify potential CO2 reduction effects that could be achieved through social implementation of these technologies

“In the data center (DC) business, we expect a significant increase in energy consumption. At the same time, it is essential, from the perspective of economic security, to enhance domestic DC capacity while also establishing new operational frameworks aligned with national policy - such as promoting regionally distributed DCs built on self-sufficient, decentralized land use and locally produced and consumed energy.

In this FS project, we are setting a vision of optimizing DC operations to realize energy conservation and CO2 emissions reduction. We will conduct trial operations of container-type data centers powered by renewable energy, as well as carry out optimization simulations, research, studies, and data collection. By combining our services and products with optimization technologies for low-CO2 operations, we aim to promote their deployment in society through this project.”
